THE Ninth Working Group of ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Minerals (ASOMM) met yesterday to talk over the outcome of ideas and initiatives for natural resources and minerals implemented by member countries last year. The working group meeting, hosted by the Ministry of Development, was held in preparation for this year's scheduled ministers conference. Held at the Rizqun International Hotel, the two-day meeting was attended by 10 ASEAN country representatives and the Asean Secretariat. They consisted of 33 foreign delegates and six Bruneianrepresentatives. In the opening address, Senior Officer for Infrastructure Division of the ASEAN Secretariat Eddy KrismeidiSoemawilaga said the discussion will focus on new ideas, programmes and actions that have been implemented in previous years and review them prior to the next ASOMM meeting. ASOMM is a programme of action in the minerals sector which has been formulated to promote trade and investment in industrial minerals, in support of the industrialisation of ASEAN member countries and meeting the demand of the mineral-intensive manufacturing and construction sector. He said that next ASOMM meeting will be held on December 5 and 6, 2012, hence the purpose of yesterday's meeting in compiling and reviewing the necessary information. The two-day meeting, which ends today, was participated by four working groups on Mineral Information and Database, Capacity Building and Mineral, Sustainable Mineral Development and Trade & Investment in Minerals. It was hoped that the meeting would prove fruitful with the assistance of the ASEAN representatives in aiding the further success of implementation of ASOMM projects and activities. Present as guest of honour at yesterday's meeting was Acting Commissioner of Land Hj Rahmad Hj Japaras chairman who welcomed the delegates to the Sultanate.
