SUMMARY
Analyzing magnetic data for the
purpose of hydrocarbon prospecting
Phan Thị Kim Văn
Magnetic minerals may directly indicate the presence of oil and gas deposits, therefore magnetic methods can be applied to hydrocarbon prospecting in oil-bearing sedimentary basins. The basic problem in the application of these methods is the separation of weak magnetic anomalies originating from low concentrations of the existing magnetic minerals. These weak anomalies are often masked by much stronger magnetic anomalies caused by underlying magnetic rocks of the basin. The weak anomalies can effectively separated by applying selective bandpass frequency filters. The filtering method has been checked by data obtained by using simple models of magnetic frequency. This paper also presents results of determining the source parameters, such as depth, horizontal coordinates of edges in the synthetic model and practical data from the Hà Nội Depression. These results have been demonstrating the applying ability of magnetic methods for purpose of hydrocarbon prospecting in Việt Nam.
