Trường Sơn, Nguyễn Đức Thắng, Hồ Quốc Khánh, Văn Đức Nam

In recent years the commercial value of such metals as copper, zinc, nickel, cobalt, gold, silver, lead… in the world market rises permanently. This has attracted the attention of coastal states to research, investigation, exploration and exploitation of these mineral resources from deep sea floor. The geological structure of East Sea is complex, with polymorphic magmatic activities. Especially, basaltic effusion appeared when the East Sea was spreaded forming volcanic dome structure that is favourable to form cobalt-manganese crust with good prospect.

In this paper the authors provide an overview on the research, investigation, exploration, mining of deep sea minerals, both in the areas lying under the management of the country and in the international waters. They set forth also some orientations for these, activities in Việt Nam.
