Red mud is the solid waste from
exploitation process of bauxite and alumina refinement. On the world, many
studies on the processing of red mud have been carried out, aiming to eliminate
a part or all of this mud and take full advantage of its useful components.
In this article, the authors develop
the ideas of taking full advantage of useful components of red mud, aiming to
create a new material having the capability of processing of heavy metal
contamination of waste-water, of high adsorption capability, low cost price,
friendly with the environment and conformable with Vietnamese conditions.
Initial results of the study on adsorption with Cu2+, Pb2+, Zn2+, Cd2+
and Cr2+ metals of material made from the Bảo Lộc and Lâm Đồng red
mud, its physico-chemical and other isothermal adsorption parameters have been
showing the very great capability of using red mud in the processing of waste-water
in the conditions of our country.
