Current status of contamination of groundwater in the coastal zone from
Bình Định to Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu areas

The study and assessment on the current status of contamination of groundwater in coastal zone of South Trung Bộ has been realized aiming to serve the management and protection of groundwater resources. In this area, the contamination state of groundwater has been studied and assessed according to such criteria as: NH₄⁺, NO₃^-, NO₂^-, Fe, SO₄^2-, As, Hg, Cd, Pb, F, Mn, CN^-, phenol, radioactive b, a, organic pesticide, gasoline and microorganism (Coliform and heatproof Coliform). Groundwater in the study area is usually polluted by nitrate. Groundwater in some localities in Bình Định, Phú Yên, Khánh Hòa, Ninh Thuận has been contaminated by fluorine of high content. The contamination of groundwater by chemical elements and compounds scarcely occurs in some places.

The groundwater contamination is caused by both natural and human factors.
