Abstracts: In order to assess the environmental contamination status in the Hà Tây Province (former), 329 samples of subsoil, surface water and groundwater have been collected and analyzed for determining heavy metal concentration. The results indicate that Pb concentration tends to increase in Ba Vì, Thường Tín, Thạch Thất, Đan Phượng and Hoài Đức districts. Concentrations of Pb in 17.4% of the analyzed groundwater samples are from 1.1 to 4.8 times higher than the acceptable values given in QCVN 09/2008, showing groundwater pollution of weak to moderate levels. In this study, certain solutions for minimizing Pb pollution are proposed such as treatment of ground water for domestic use, treatment of contaminated subsoil and surface water to prevent pollutant transmission to ground water, protection of public health, etc.
