SUMMARY
Characteristics
of collapse in the Cầu River bank in Bắc
Cạn Province,
East Bắc Bộ
Đỗ Minh Đức
The Cầu
River banks suffer
intensive collapse, especially during rainy season. The collapse always happens
in meandering segments of the river. There is a total
of 170 meandering segments in the study area, among them, 59 ones are
constituted by alluvial and weathered soil having strong collapse level.
According to the calculation model of Hickins and Nanson [1], the estimated
collapse rate ranges from 1 to over 16 m/y. The most intensive collapse
segments are Khau Chu, Sáu Hai and Khuổi Hoa. The most suitable counter
measures versus erosion consist of improvement of ability of flood and collapse
warning, reinforcement of river banks by stone embankments.
