SUMMARY

Seismic zoning in the East Việt Nam Sea and its coastal zone

Phạm Văn Thục, Nguyễn Thị Kim Thanh

Data related to 231 earthquakes which occurred in the East Việt Nam Sea from 1524 to 2002 years show that, the East Việt Nam Sea is divided by the main faults into three parts with different seismicities: the north part of the East Việt Nam Sea or the south margin of the Chinese Continent, the spreading zone of the south part of the East Việt Nam Sea and the eastern margin of Trung Bộ Việt Nam coastal zone. The frequency-magnitude relation is log N = -0.76 M + 5.16. A map of seismic zoning for the East Việt Nam Sea with maximum magnitude is presented.
