SUMMARY

Neogene buried relief in the Mekong Basin

Based on the analysis of the phase dating of the relief in the Mekong Basin, the following three stages of the buried Neogene relief could be recognized:

- End of early Miocene: the buried stage of the sea floor marked by the Rotalia clay bed.

- End of middle Miocene: the buried stage of the aluvial plain and coastal delta.

- End of late Miocene: the coastal delta was buried by Pliocene-Quarternary sediments ending the development of the Tertiary deposition in particular basins.

The present relief of the sea floor in the Mekong Basin does not reflect clearly the inheriting character of the  former buried relieves and the structural plan of the basin in Paleogene and Neogene.
