The applications
of GIS technology in
studies of geological hazards are becoming popular. Relevant spatial data can
be modeled as DEM, deep cleavage, cleavage level, lithological...
used in determining active faults. The combination of these data was earned out
on the basis of determining weights for each factor expression of active
faulting by using hierarchical analysis model. Factors used as input data were constmcted by identification problem with the Sơn La standard fault (through Tuần Giáo town), where the Tuần Giáo earthquake was occurred in 1983. Using map
components and ArcGIS software, through the process
of superposition, the authors have established an active fault map at scale
1:200,000. An active fault zone in the Đà river hydroelectric ladder region was detected including: Lai Châu - Điện Biên, Phong Thổ - Than Uyên and Mường La - Bắc Yên, Sông Đà, Tuần Giáo, Mai Châu, Mù Cang Chải,
Lào Cai - Ninh Bình, Mường Tè - Nậm Nhé, Nậm Tống
and Mường Nhé.
