Charasteristics of Neotectonic structural
blocks
in the Sơn La
hydroelectric resevoir region

The block separation of Neotectonic structural elements was created on the basis of remote sensing analysis,
DEM maps, topographical features and comparative geological structures, in
combination with the following criteria: 1) Characteristics of horizontally and
vertically Neotectonic deformation; 2) Features of
structural pattern morphology; 3) Relationship with older structural pattern;
4) Characteristics of geophysics and deep structure; 5) Features of recent
movement using accurate data of repeating geodetic measurement; 6) The
expression characteristics of other exogenous internal operations. The authors
defined 30 structural sub-blocks with different characteristics. The boundary
between the sub-blocks is fault zones of the 2nd and the 3rd
levels. In the area of the Son La hydropower reservoir, the Mường La - Băc Yên - Chợ Bờ fault zone and Sông Đà fault zone separate Hoàng Liên Son structural zone in the northeast, Đà River structural zone in the central, and
Son La structural zone in the southwest. There were 4 sub-blocks of the Tú Lệ block in Hoàng Liên Son zone, 1 sub-block of the Pu Sam Cap block and 10 sub-blocks of the Đà River block in the Sông Đà zone, 3 sub-blocks of the Son La block and
other 11 sub-blocks of the Tà Phình blocks in Son La zone.
