Nguyễn Văn Hùng, Nguyễn Trọng Yêm, Bùi Văn Thơm

The Luangphrabang - Xaiyabouli fault zone is a part of the Điện Biên - Luangphrabang - Pursat fault zone, cutting across the Northwestern part of  Laos, with NE - SW strike and a length of over 400 km. The results of study show that this fault zone consists of many faults with the same strike direction, forming a large slip-extension fault structure. Based on the integrated results of geologic, geomorphologic, physico-tectonic analyses, the movements of this fault zone in the Quaternary - Contemporary period have been determined to be mainly of left lateral strike slip - normal nature.
