The seismic hazards of Sông Cả - Rào Nậy valley on the basis of Neo-Deterministic approach have been addressed in this paper. The results have shown that:
1/ By the end of 2012 the observed earthquake
occurrence in the Sông Cả - Rào Nậy valley had had the maximum
magnitude not exceeding 6.0. Nevertheless, this study region has been
prognosticated to have the maximum magnitude up to 6.5-7.0 along the following
active faults: Điện Biên - Sầm Nưa - Thường
Xuân, Sông Cả, Rào Nậy, Nậm
Nơn, Nậm Chou, Qùy Hợp, Sầm
Nưa - Thái Hòa, Nghi Sơn and Thanh Chương - Kỳ Anh.
2/ Seismic hazards calculated from earthquake catalog: in Tương Dương and Hòa Bình Districts the maximum ground displacement (Dmax = 0,18 ÷ 0,24cm), maximum acceleration (Amax = 8÷10 cm/s2). In Vinh, Diễn Châu, Yên Thành Districts the maximum ground displacement (Dmax = 0.18÷0.27 cm), and maximum acceleration (Amax = 10 ÷ 13 cm/s2).
3/ Seismic hazard prediction: in this area the maximum ground displacement (Dmax) can reach 5÷12 cm, and maximum acceleration (Amax) can reach 120÷280 cm/s2).
