For the first time, a section of ophiolite (ocean crust vestige?) was discovered by the Marine Geology and Mineral Resources Centre in the Kỳ Hà sea area of Quảng Nam Province during the survey of geology and mineral resources belonging to the Project: “Investigation on geological and geodynamic characteristics, environmental geology and prediction of geohazads in the Thừa Thiên Huế - Bình Định offshore area (0-60 m of bathymetry) at 1/100,000 scale”. The section has a lithological composition similar to the section of ophiolite in Quế Lưu and Quế Sơn areas (lower course of the Tranh River) of the Tam Kỳ - Phước Sơn Suture Zone (northern margin of the Kon Tum Block). The section of this type occurs also in the Chiềng Khoang area, Sông Mã District, belonging to the Sông Mã Suture Zone (West Bắc Bộ, Việt Nam).

This section of ophiolite is evidence of the seaward extension of geological structure of the Tam Kỳ - Phước Sơn Suture Zone in the subparallel direction.
