SUMMARY

On the Carboniferous-Permian carbonate sediments in the Mường Lống area, Kỳ Sơn District, Nghệ An

Sections of the Carboniferous-Permian sediments in the North Trung Bộ region have been considered as similar, therefore they have been attributed to a stratigraphic series, including the La Khê (C₁ lk) and Bắc Sơn (C₁-P bs) Formations. However, our recent studies let see that the section of Carboniferous-Permian in the Mường Lống area (NW of Nghệ An Province) is different in comparing with those in other areas of North Trung Bộ in section features, lithological and fauna compositions. This difference allows us to establish a new formation: Pha Sắc Fm (C₁v ps) of Visean age and to restore the Mường Lống Fm (C-P ml) of Carboniferous-Permian age for the Mường Lống area.
