Study on the warning of the risk of earth subsidence-cracking

in the Nghệ-Tĩnh area

In the Nghệ-Tĩnh area, disaster of earth subsidence-cracking occurs more and more complicated, difficult to be controlled, causing damage to the life of local inhabitants. This paper determines areas having subsidence-cracking hazard serving the planning for sustainable socio-economic development of Nghệ An and Hà Tĩnh Provinces.

- In the study area, 54 points of earth subsidence-cracking (ESC) have been established, among them 19 points are serious, destroying socio-economic works. Points of ESC are concentrated in bands, such as: Quế Phong - Quỳ Châu - Quỳ Hợp, Kỳ Sơn - Tương Dương - Thanh Chương, Đức Thọ - Can Lộc - Cẩm Xuyên and Hương Sơn - Vũ Quang - Hương Khê.

- ESC occurs and develops on the basis of neotectonics of the Earth crust, in which the active role of the Sông Cả, Rào Nậy Faults and faults of higher level of NE-SW and NW-SE directions in the Nghệ-Tĩnh area.

- On the Nghệ-Tĩnh territory, the areas having high and very high danger of ESC are Tương Dương - Anh Sơn, Quế Phong - Qùy Châu, Thanh Chương - Nam Đàn, Đức Thọ - Hương Khê, Lộc Hà - Cẩm Xuyên and Quỳ Châu - Quỳnh Lưu. The areas having average danger of ESC lie in the margin of the above areas. The areas having low and very low danger of ESC are distributed in the periphery of areas of average danger.
