SUMMARY

Delimitation for forecasting land subsidence hazard in the Hồ Chí Minh City

On the basis of land subsidence investigation in the Hồ Chi Minh City, the authors of this paper present some conclusions and petitions as follows:

- In the Hồ Chí Minh City there are two zones of high danger of land subsidence with the NW-SE direction, along the Sài Gòn and Vàm Cỏ Đông Fault Zones. The nodes of NW-SE fault zone with the NE-SW and the sublongitudinal fault zones are also the places of high danger of land subsidence. The areas lying outside active fault zones have lower or very low danger of land subsidence.

- The public education about land subsidence plays a very important role for population in the near future in order to enhance the knowledge about the cause and measures for minimizing damages. Never build civil or industrial constructions on the places of high subsidence danger. In the case of obligation, it needs to do some technical measures for avoiding damage. It needs also to prevent any uncontrolled forms of sand, clay, peat and groundwater exploitation.
