SUMMARY

Adaptation with climate change in the geological and mineral domain
of the coastal zone of Việt Nam

La Thế Phúc, Lương Thị Tuất

Geological resources in the coastal zone of Việt Nam are very rich and diversified, including many deposits, mines and geological heritages of high value. Vietnamese geologists have been well approaching the research direction for sustainable development, conformable to the tendency of humankind and the international integration. Impacted by the global climate change, the georesources of Vietnamese coastal zone have been and will be injured more and more severely, especially by the sea level rise. With the present tendency of sea level rise, after 100 years many mines, deposits, geoheritages and fertile plains will be submerged. The research on the preservation and rational exploitation of georesources in the coastal zone for fitting with climate change is a difficult, but necessary task. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in general, and the Geological Branch in particular, has been carrying on actively programs aiming to cope with the climate change and to minimize injuries of natural calamities.

This article presents the current status of coping with climate change and sea level rise in the geological and mineral domain in the coastal zone of Việt Nam and suggests measures of efficacious use of resources.
