Seismic characteristics of hydrous peridotite in the study of deep structure of the Earth

This article presents a seismic model of some rock asociations (peridotite and eclogite) in deep structure constructed on the basis of synthesis of experimental results on elastic chararacter of hydrous mineral phases realized the author in the Laboratory of the Technological School of Swiss Federation (ETHZ) and dry phases from other studies. The model shows that, although in normal conditions hydrous phases have lower wave propagation velocity than dry phases, however for petrological association of high temperature and pressure of subduction zone the presence of hydrous phases leads to the increase of velocity to the association. This creates the capacity of using seismic materials in the forecast of the presence of hydrous phases, as well as in the delimitation of petrological structure areas at the depth of 200-400 km.
