Tam Giang - Bạch
Mã region is located in Thừa Thiên - Huế province and covers an
area of ca. 1600 km2. This region is considered as a place storage
many outstanding values of history of geological evolution and geological
structure; geomorphology, landscape; Quaternary geology - marine geology and
mineral resources. The continental crust in this region has undergone a long
history of evolution, from Ordovician to Holocene, and in many different
tectonic settings. During the Ordovician - Silurian time, the region is a part
of the "Long Đại volcano" Island arc; following is the
development of red terrigenous and carbonate formations in the Early
Devonian-Carboniferous time; The Indosinian orogeny took place during Late
Permian-Trassics to formed magmatic rocks include the rocks of Phú Lộc, Hải
Vân and Bà Nà complexes. The Phú Lộc magmatic rocks are mafic in
composition, whereas, Hải Vân and Bà Nà rocks are biotite-bearing
granites and two mica granites, which were generated in tectonic setting
relating to plate collision between Indochina and South China Blocks. In the
mountain and hill area, the topography is characterized by the erosion
surfaces, waterfalls and natural lakes; In the coastal plain are lagoons, sand
dikes, river sections with emerging dunes and beautiful beaches. The
outstanding geoheritage values in the Tam Giang - Bạch Mã region have
great significances for scientific research; educations; tourism and economic
development.
